3rd Annual Little Ben’s
Big Fundraiser Cruise
 Friday,
September 12 from 7 PM to 10 PM
We host this Cruise as our heartfelt thanks to Animal Legal Defense Fund
for all they do improve the lives of animals. Our little Jack Russell
terrier, Ben, was rescued, along with over 300
other dogs, from a puppy mill/hoarder
that had them “living” in unthinkable
circumstances. This is one of many court cases initiated by ALDF where
they speak on behalf of the animals.
Thanks to ALDF, Ben’s court case was won
so he and all his former fur friends can now live in homes with
love. Unfortunately the work continues, so join us in
supporting ALDF.

Upcoming AUGUST
& SEPTEMBER Canine & Cocktails for a Cause dates:
August 22: Join our Ice Cream Social & support Mid-Atlantic
Westie Rescue
Get your dog’s tongue ready
for the Dog “Ice Cream” eating contest. Last
year’s winner pulled away with first prize within seconds!
Prizes will go to the top three eaters. We’ll have plenty of
frosty white Westies joining us for the festivities. Yes, even these
white, lovable dogs need a rescue to call their own. We at Paws have
had the good fortune of meeting many of the Westies that find their
forever homes thanks to Westie Rescue of the Mid-Atlantic. Whether
these dogs come from puppy mills, broken homes, abusive homes and other
backgrounds, all have lots of love to still give. The resilience of a
dog’s soul is amazing!
September 26: Fall into Fashion Canine Show to support Modest
Needs
Keep your pooch one paw ahead of his fellow fidos and watch canines strut their stuff on the cat walk in the newest
styles available at Paws pet boutique this fall. Proceeds from the raffle and drink sales will support Loews
Annapolis Hotel's charity of choice, Modest Needs. Their mission is to assist
those in our local community who have found themselves in unexpected
financial difficulty. Funds raised are applied to grants that go
directly to help prevent people from entering poverty (due to
unforeseen expenses) or to restore self-sufficiency to individuals who
are willing to work or to empower permanently disadvantaged individuals
attempting to live independently. The difference Modest Needs makes is
felt and appreciated locally.
Over
$4,000 has been raised at the first Canine & Cocktails for a
Cause events! Here's who we helped...
April 25 – Come, Bark
& Rejoice with Beagle Rescue of Southern
Maryland. Thanks
to everyone over $1,100
was raised to help beagles in need. This group has approximately 60 dogs seeking new
homes and would love to find additional
foster homes as well as forever homes. Misia, a beagle who
recently had jaw surgery, came to Canines & Cocktails and found her forever home with Emily
that night! We wish them the very best and
know this event was a success if we helped make that match!
May
30
– Black Dog
Night with SPCA/Humane
Society of Prince George’s County
Pam
published the book “Black is Beautiful: A
Celebration of Dark Dogs”to
tout the beauties and desirable traits of black dogs, which tend to be
the least likely to be adopted. Her dog, Samba, graces the
cover
and gave us all reasons throughout the evening to consider adopting a
black dog! All the
profits from book sales are donated to the Humane Society of
Prince
George’s County. Our colorful crowd helped raise $1,000.
Special thanks this month to the Purple Tooth
wine bar for their $100
gift certificate raffle prize and Loews Hotel
for their overnight stay
& breakfast for two prize!
June 27 – Luke's Party for SPCA of Anne Arundel County
Yellow lab Luke, adopted from the SPCA, now enjoys his duties as Loews Annapolis
Hotel’s mascot dog. Five
wonderful dogs currently looking for homes enjoyed an evening out
filled with pets and biscuits. Artist Leo had painted a portrait
of Luke that now hangs in Loews lobby. Leo kindly donated a pet
portrait to the raffle, which added to the excitement. Even with the
rain, raffle donations were strong and the evening was lively. Visit
the Loews or the Annapolis Day Spa at Loews for more information about
Leo's artwork.
July 25 – Tails were Wagging for Fidos for Freedom
Fidos for Freedom
gives many something to wag about, so a Tail Wagging contest was
appropriate for the evening. Fidos for Freedom therapy dogs bring
smiles to faces when they visit patients residing in health care
facilities. Additionally, they make a difference in lives of people
with mobility and hard-of-hearing impairments by providing/matching
them with trained assistance dogs. Fidos volunteers were out in full
force to enjoy a beautiful evening that raised almost $1,000 from the raffle alone!
More Happy Tails Hour Benefits to
